It is true that we can conceivably rationalise ourselves from almost any proposition . The questions is - what is the borderline? With this guy - personally I believe he has mellowed . Nobody could have been more prone to suggestion as his career path shows . He is just one more of those of a particular personality character trait predisposed or addicted enough to seek the comfort zone . Perhaps the polar opposite of an explorer . Say an Edmund Hillary who ventures forth and risks all . One could ask what did he gain ? He would have to answer that ( or Jung) .
In the case of the University Professor he would not pay just any price to sacrifice personal intellectual integrity . Do we fault him ? Was he "better off" as a consequence ?
Now that is a matter of semantics !
I will post this as I have recently lost other lengthy posts in the electronic world . The subject intrigues and I will post again !
